Recover access to an encrypted ZIP archive

ZIP files are often used to package documents, photos, backups, and project files. If the archive belongs to you but its password has been forgotten, Catpasswd can test password candidates against the encrypted archive in the cloud.

The recovery task checks candidate passwords; it does not remove encryption by bypassing the password. Strong, long, or randomly generated passwords may remain unrecovered, so no service can promise a successful result.

Supported scope

  • Password-protected ZIP archives recognized by the platform
  • Files up to the current 100 MB upload limit
  • Free and professional cloud recovery modes

How online password recovery works

1

Validate the file

Upload the encrypted ZIP file. The server verifies the file signature before creating a recovery task, so renaming an unrelated file to .zip will not work.

2

Run recovery attempts

The task enters a queue and tests curated dictionaries and password variations against the archive encryption. Your browser does not need to remain open.

3

Track the result

Use the task search page or wait for the email notification. When a password is found, follow the task page instructions to view the result.

Privacy and file handling

Uploads are processed in isolated environments. You can destroy the uploaded file and related task record after recovery.

Plans and pricing

Start with free recovery or choose a paid mode for a larger search range and faster queue. Payment does not guarantee recovery.

Important limitations

Corrupted archives, unsupported ZIP encryption, and strong random passwords may not be recoverable. Recovery time depends on queue load and password complexity.
