Recover a forgotten RAR archive password

RAR archives are commonly used for large backups, multipart downloads, and compressed project files. Catpasswd identifies supported RAR archive data from the file itself before assigning the task to the appropriate recovery workflow.

Recovery works by testing possible passwords against the archive encryption. It cannot reveal a password instantly or weaken the archive format. The chance of success depends on whether the original password appears within the tested search range.

Supported scope

  • Supported RAR and RAR5 encrypted archives
  • Archives detected from their RAR file signature rather than filename alone
  • Files up to the current 100 MB upload limit

How online password recovery works

1

Validate the file

Upload the RAR file through the recovery form. File signature detection confirms that the upload is a RAR archive before the task is accepted.

2

Run recovery attempts

Cloud workers test dictionary entries and rule-based password variations. Professional mode expands the search range and receives faster queue treatment.

3

Track the result

Track the task with its ID or your email address. You can close the page while recovery runs and receive an email when the task changes state.

Privacy and file handling

Uploads are processed in isolated environments. You can destroy the uploaded file and related task record after recovery.

Plans and pricing

Start with free recovery or choose a paid mode for a larger search range and faster queue. Payment does not guarantee recovery.

Important limitations

Damaged volumes, missing parts of a multipart archive, unsupported variants, and high-entropy passwords can prevent recovery. Results and completion time cannot be guaranteed.
